In September of 2016, Georgetown University announced that it will offer Legacy Status to descendants of the 1838 sale of 272 enslaved people who were sold to two Louisiana men. We are happy to announce that 3 descendants from New Orleans will be attending Georgetown University. Melisande Colomb and Shepard Thomas will attend Georgetown in the fall and Elizabeth Thomas will will start in the spring of 2018. The GU272 Descendants Association congratulates Melisande Colomb, Shepard Thomas and Elizabeth Thomas. Incoming Legacy students will use a variety of funding streams to attend Georgetown, including scholarships, loans, grants and one descendant has set up a Go Fund Me account.
Anyone interested in applying to Georgetown University using the GU272 Legacy Status in the fall of 2018 should start the process now.Published in
